On 20 June 2026 at the SLSWA Awards of Excellence, Scarboro was delighted to be awarded the IT Birtwistle Trophy as SLSWA’s ‘Patrol Club of the Year’ – a wonderful honour that recognises the dedication of every one of our patrolling members. This award is a genuine reflection of the collective effort that goes into keeping the public safe at Scarborough Beach each and every weekend of the patrol season.

In 2025/26, our members recorded 10,108 patrol hours, performed 5,207 preventative actions, delivered 123 first aids, and carried out 89 rescues – accounting for around 24% of all rescues across the state. We ran two separate flagged areas for much of the season, and for the first time participated in both the Pink Patrol and Pride Patrol initiatives.

None of this happens without leadership and behind the scenes organisation from our Beach Operations Committee and the commitment of our patrolling members. Thank you to all of our Patrol Captains and Vice Captains who led our patrols with such distinction, and to every member who pulled on a uniform this season – this award belongs to you!
